Dangan Ronpa: Hope's Academy and Despair's Students

The original name is "Dangan Ronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei", and that translation isn't what I'd choose myself, as well as a lot of other things in the game, but I'm playing with the Zetsubou patch, so what the hell. All the other stuff is following their translation, even though it isn't always the best choice.
I planned to do this as a normal dude would and just write the shit down here, but I wanted to start things from the beginning. I've been bored lately, and I've seen so many arts, reviews, and jokes regarding Dangan Ronpa that I couldn't believe there was so little information about the in-game things around the internet. I'm kind of a perfectionist, so I really like doing all the things you're able to do in a game. That said, I'm planning to post some random stuff about games I'm playing so I can keep it fresh on my memory, and I will edit the posts as I get more random stuff... as well as I plan on leaving my thoughts about the games. Let's start this.

Dangan Ronpa is pretty different from what I expected. With the drawings and the fandom, I was expecting something more... gay. I was, indeed, aware that it was a great game, but I didn't know it would be so serious. First impression: I hate that fucking main character. I've been playing Persona for a while now, and I got used to the "be yourself in-game" system, so it really pissed me off to be forced to act like a slow weakling during the game. I really didn't like the fact that they don't actually let you choose the options they provide you, they just show you three options, you choose what you want, then Naegi, the main character, thinks "No, I can't do this, I will hurt someone's feelings!" and you get to "choose" again until you get the option they want you to choose. Also, during other scenes, he usually says things that gets everyone pissed at him for obvious reasons, that if I had the chance to choose, I wouldn't say. He lets himself get bullied A LOT by that Togami "Super Duper High School Scion" guy because of that kind of stupid things he didn't have to say, or said the wrong way.
Then, there were the trials, which were kind of "too easy" mostly, so I chose the hard mode, that they call Malicious mode, and it got a little better. Not getting into details about the trials, but with no odds of losing even if you didn't realize anything about the case, I'll just say they could have been better. Afterwards, you get something around 100 medals, which are not that much of a great idea, cause you basically have no use for them, and without repeating the trials, and looking into things as you go, you get 999(max) pretty fast... but you won't have a place to spend it. I got to 999 about twice during the game, and it was enough to get everything available, and still got plenty left.
I liked the story, even though the reason it all happened didn't make much sense, I'm guessing they will fill some gaps during the next Dangan Ronpa games. There were some flaws, like characters acting out of character(?) now and then to make things flow better, they want YOU to solve the shit, so they make everyone else play dumb a lot of times so you can save the day.
Now, about the translation... I heard it had something to do with project Zetsubou not wanting to translate it with the same names as another project used, but their titles, "Super Duper High School" didn't always make sense. I mean, in the original the girl was LITERALLY the "Super Duper High School Gambler(Gyanbura)", but they put her title like "Super Duper High School High Roller". I don't think it counts as stealing someone else's project when it is exactly the same thing written in japanese, but they did it not only with her, but also with some titles that could really fuck you up. "Super Duper High School All Star"... what would you think that guy did? He was a baseball player, as the japanese name was clear about, a direct translation would be "Super Duper High School Baseball Player"(taking the "Super Duper High School" part as a default, because I can't translate that from the original), and it was actually a big deal for the trial.
Well, the trials. During Non-stop Debates, there were times when you had no idea where to shoot, even though you knew exactly who did it, and how they did it, and I'm guessing it's a translation issue as well, but I wouldn't blame them for that one, cause it is really hard to get the ambiguity of the kanjis in the original to put into Weak Spots. Sometimes the "Weak Spot" didn't make much sense, no lie or contradiction exactly, and it was a pain in the ass. The Epiphany Anagram suffered a bit with the translation as well, there is this trial where you have to shoot "DID", that stands for Dissociative Identity Disorder, but they haven't used that acronym anywhere in the game before, so you're just staring at the screen, asking yourself why the hell you had to say you "did" something. I'm not complaining about the translation during the trials as something that unbelievable, because I wouldn't find a better way to do it, and even if it turned out that twisted, I bet it was somewhat the best one could do, but they really could have made a lot of other things in a different way. Like the difficulty. Merciful stands for easy, Gentle is normal, and Malicious is hard. I chose Merciful during the first chapter, because sounds harder than Gentle, but it isn't.

Well, now about the things I couldn't find around the internet: The Report Cards. Between a trial and a new death, you usually have a couple of days with Free Time. Basically, you can spend that time with the other characters like in a Sim Date, and now and then you will have a "we know each other better now" event, which will happen a lot more often if you get the characters the right presents(you get them by putting medals in the monomono machine, near the Infirmary 1F). After the event, you'll get some new skill that will help during a trial, or a "skill point"(SP), that is required to equip skills, and you'll find a new page in that character's Report Card. It's not hard to figure out who likes what kind of present if you pay attention to the characters. Asahina likes donuts and swimming things, Yamada likes oily food and everything that smells like virginity, Celes likes tea and expensive things, and most girls like the flowers(In Vitro Rose and Cherry Blossom Bouquet). Some of the items clearly had some wrong translation, like the "Bulberi Perfume"(in japanese they would write it like "buruberi", when they actually meant "blueberry"), but you can understand what those things are... mostly. I'm guessing those were really supposed to have stupid names anyway.
When you reach the maximum "friendship level", they are likely to ask you to go to their rooms, and after that you can talk to them and give whatever you want, but you won't get any new skills or pages. Some of the characters won't take you to their rooms, and it's a bit tricky to find out whether they've reached their maximum or not, but usually Naegi will say something like "and I can really say that we're friends now", or "now I understand what makes him tick", which was the reason I was looking for posts about the game to start with, I wanted to know if I had it all. As I can't be sure because it took me a while to figure it out how it worked when they don't take you to their room, some of the Report Cards I'm taking as complete may not be, so I will be putting a * after the names of the ones I'm not sure if I got it all. Another thing worth saying is something else I'm not really sure about, but I think you can't actually bond with Genocider Shou(and get new pages) until you've maxed Fukawa.
